When Stuart’s dementia needs increased, his wife Claire was struggling to support him while living with sight loss herself. But accepting help felt frightening. Claire worried that having someone in their home could mean losing the independence and familiar routines they both relied on.
Our team took the time to listen. We visited Stuart and Claire at home, understood their concerns and carefully matched them with a support worker who took time to get to know them - their routines, their home and what mattered most to them.
Support wasn't about taking over. It was about working alongside them, helping Stuart remain independent while giving Claire the opportunity to rest and look after her own wellbeing.
Within just five weeks, a trusting relationship had formed, and both felt listened to, respected and in control.
For one family, the right support changed everything. Your support helps us be there for many more, donate today here.
