Specialist dementia day support

Our specialist dementia day centres provide a safe, welcoming environment where people living with dementia can enjoy meaningful activities, social interaction and personalised support, while giving carers valuable time to rest, recharge and focus on their own wellbeing.

Why choose a specialist Dementia Day Centre?

We understand that considering a day centre can feel like a significant step. Many families tell us they worry about how their loved one would react, whether they would settle in, or if they would enjoy spending time away from home.

These feelings are completely natural.

At ADSS, we recognise that no one knows a person better than the family and friends who support them every day. That's why we take the time to understand each individual's interests, routines, personality and preferences, helping them feel comfortable, valued and supported from the moment they walk through our doors.

For many families, the decision to attend a day centre becomes a positive turning point. People living with dementia gain opportunities for friendship, stimulation and meaningful activity, while carers gain reassurance, support and valuable time to focus on their own wellbeing.

We understand that personal care is deeply private and can sometimes feel like one of the most difficult aspects of living with dementia. Our experienced team provides support with dignity, compassion and respect, taking the time to understand each individual's preferences and routines.

Whether someone requires assistance with toileting, personal hygiene or medication administration, our trained team is on hand to provide the right level of support while promoting independence wherever possible.

Beacon is equipped with spacious, accessible toilet and changing facilities located within the secure day centre environment, allowing support to be provided safely, discreetly and with minimal disruption to the person's day.

We understand that dementia rarely exists in isolation. Many people living with dementia also have other health conditions, disabilities or mobility challenges that can make finding the right support feel overwhelming.

Our experienced team is equipped to support individuals with a wide range of complex and changing care needs, ensuring they can continue to enjoy meaningful activities, social connection and specialist dementia support in a safe and welcoming environment.

Our day centre is fully accessible and can accommodate people who use wheelchairs or mobility aids. We are committed to helping everyone participate in activities, build relationships and remain engaged in day-to-day life, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities.

If you are unsure whether Beacon is suitable for your loved one, we encourage you to speak to our team. We will always take the time to understand your circumstances and explore how we can provide the right support for you and your family.

One of the most loved features of Beacon Day Centre is our national award-finalist Beacon Buddies programme, which brings together people living with dementia and local primary school children.

These intergenerational sessions create meaningful opportunities for shared connection, whether they're working on a craft project, sharing stories or simply spending time together. Many attendees tell us these visits are a highlight of their week, creating new friendships with the younger generation.

Building on the success of Beacon Buddies, we have also introduced Beacon Babies, welcoming carers and young children into the centre for regular sessions. These visits bring a unique energy to the day centre, with attendees enjoying the opportunity to interact with babies and toddlers through play, songs and of course bubbles of the popping variety!

Our beautiful sensory garden offers a peaceful outdoor space where attendees can relax, enjoy nature and spend time in the fresh air. Designed with accessibility and safety in mind, the garden features smooth pathways, raised flower beds and secure boundaries.

The scents, colours and sounds of the garden can spark memories, encourage conversation and provide gentle sensory stimulation, while the tranquil setting offers a welcome opportunity to unwind. Whether enjoying a quiet moment, taking a gentle stroll or helping to care for the plants, the garden is a much-loved part of life at Beacon and a place where many attendees find joy, comfort and connection.

No two days at Beacon are ever exactly the same. Our activities are shaped by the interests, abilities and preferences of the people attending, ensuring every day feels engaging, meaningful and enjoyable.

A typical day may look something like this:

10:00am – Orientation & refreshments
Attendees arrive and settle in with a hot drink, snack and friendly conversation. Our specialist team will begin the day with an orientation session, promoting attendees to engage with date, month, season to help with cognitive stimulation.

The morning starts with activities focused on physical wellbeing. These may include chair-based exercises, stretching, movement to music or gentle group activities designed to encourage mobility, coordination and confidence. Wherever possible, we encourage attendees to get up, move around and take part at a pace that feels right for them.

11:30am – Mental stimulation & refreshments
Following a light refreshment break, attendees enjoy activities designed to stimulate the mind and encourage social interaction. Popular sessions include quizzes, word games, reminiscence discussions and themed activities that spark conversation, memories and laughter.

At Beacon, every day is designed to help people living with dementia feel valued, supported and part of a welcoming community.

Capstone Dementia Centre - Medway

Capstone Dementia Centre provides specialist dementia day support for people at different stages of their dementia journey, helping them remain active, connected and supported in a safe and welcoming environment.

With two distinct services, Capstone supports both people in the earlier stages of dementia who are looking to maintain independence and social connection, as well as those requiring more specialist support as their needs progress.

Every day is centred around meaningful activities, companionship and person-centred support, helping people living with dementia continue to enjoy life, build friendships and maintain a sense of purpose.

For families and carers, Capstone provides reassurance that their loved one is being supported in a specialist dementia environment by a dedicated team who understand the unique challenges dementia can bring.

Opening Days: Monday-Friday 10am-3pm, including Bank Holidays

Location: Medway

Transport: Escorted transport is ONLY available for Day Centre attendees, subject to availability. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements.

Our Mind & Memory Club is designed for people experiencing memory concerns, noticing changes in their memory, or early on in their dementia journey.

You do not need a dementia diagnosis to attend.

Delivered in small groups by a qualified facilitator, sessions are based on the internationally recognised Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) programme – the only non-drug intervention recommended by NICE for people living with mild to moderate dementia.

Through a mix of word games, quizzes, discussion groups, physical activities and problem-solving exercises, attendees are encouraged to keep their minds active, build confidence and enjoy social connection in a supportive environment.

To attend, individuals must be able to use toilet facilities independently.

Self-referrals are welcome, and referrals can also be made by Adult Social Care and healthcare professionals.

Opening Days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Time: 10.00am – 3.00pm
Group Size: Maximum 10 attendees

The Mind & Memory Club is designed for people who are able to remain largely independent and make informed decisions about their day-to-day activities. The service operates an open-door approach, recognising and respecting the independence, choice and autonomy of attendees.

Many people choose to travel to the centre independently, whether driving themselves, using public transport or arriving by taxi. Throughout the day, attendees are free to make their own choices and enjoy the flexibility to come and go as they wish, helping to maintain confidence, independence and a sense of control over their daily lives.

Operating slightly differently the Specialist Dementia Day Centre has three large, distinct rooms and activity areas, giving attendees space to move around, make choices and maintain independence throughout the day. These areas are all within a secure dementia-friendly unit, providing freedom within a safe and supportive environment.

Our Specialist Dementia Day Centre is designed for people who are further along in their dementia journey and would benefit from additional support throughout the day.

The pace of the day is intentionally slower, allowing attendees to participate in activities in a way that feels comfortable and enjoyable. We take time to understand each individual's interests and preferences, tailoring activities to what brings them purpose and enjoyment.

Our 12-week activity programme includes arts and crafts, indoor gardening, circle dancing, movement to music, cooking, reminiscence sessions and sensory-based activities, all designed to promote wellbeing, social connection and engagement.

We understand that personal care is deeply private. Our experienced team provides support with dignity and compassion, including assistance with personal care, toileting and medication administration where required.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all attendees, individuals attending the Day Centre must be able to weight bear, with support if needed. Unfortunately, the service is not currently able to accommodate people who are fully reliant on a wheelchair for mobility.

For families, the Day Centre offers reassurance that their loved one is spending time in a specialist dementia environment, supported by experienced professionals who understand their needs and help them continue to live with dignity, purpose and connection.

We understand that choosing a day service can feel like a significant step, both for the individual attending and for their family. Many people worry about whether they will enjoy it, settle in, or feel comfortable in a new environment.

To help make that decision easier, we offer a full day taster session for both our Mind & Memory Club and Specialist Dementia Day Centre.

This gives prospective attendees the opportunity to meet the team, experience activities, spend time with other attendees and get a feel for the centre before making any commitment. Families are also encouraged to ask questions and discuss any concerns they may have.

During the visit, we will take time to understand the individual's interests, routines, support needs and personal preferences. This helps us determine which service would be most suitable and ensures we can provide the best possible experience from day one.

Many families tell us that seeing the centre in action and experiencing the warm, welcoming atmosphere first-hand gives them the confidence and reassurance they need to take the next step.

To arrange a trial session or discuss which service may be right for you or your loved one, please contact our team.
