Alzheimer's and Dementia Support Services (ADSS) is delighted to announce the reopening of Capstone Dementia Centre, a specialist day service supporting people living with dementia across Medway.
The centre, which reopened on Thursday 11th June, provides structured activities, social interaction and personalised support for people living with dementia, helping them to remain active, connected and engaged while maintaining their independence for as long as possible.
For many families, the service offers much more than a day away from home. It provides reassurance that their loved one is being cared for by experienced dementia specialists who understand their individual needs, while offering carers valuable respite and time to focus on their own wellbeing.
Capstone Dementia Centre will continue to offer a wide range of dementia-friendly activities designed to stimulate the mind, encourage social connection and promote physical wellbeing. From music and reminiscence sessions to arts, crafts and group activities, every aspect of the service is designed to support people to live well with dementia.
As part of the reopening, the existing Capstone team will join the ADSS family, combining their local knowledge and trusted relationships with ADSS's expertise in delivering specialist person-led dementia care and support across Kent and Medway.
Katie Antill, Chief Executive at ADSS commented “At ADSS, we believe our role is to understand the individual behind the dementia diagnosis - their story, interests, strengths and what brings them comfort and joy. We're excited to bring that philosophy to Capstone while preserving everything that has made the service so valued by the people who attend it and their families."
Janet, Capstone service user commented “I was so excited last night knowing I was coming back today, I couldn’t sleep I missed it so much. When you have dementia, you can sometimes worry about where you go, but here we are all in the same boat, we can relate to one another.”
Georgina, Capstone service user also added “People need people, there’s nothing worse than being alone. This place keeps people together, it’s like being part of a big family, we’ve made friends and have so much fun together.”
ADSS supports thousands of people living with dementia, their carers and loved ones across Kent each year through a range of services including dementia coordination, support at home, wellbeing groups, day services, carer support and community programmes.
