Beyond a diagnosis

Beyond a Diagnosis is more than a webinar series - it’s a space for conversation, shared learning and deeper understanding. Together with our panel of experienced professionals and those living with dementia, we explore the real issues that shape the lives of people living with dementia and their loved ones. From identity and independence to behaviours, wellbeing and care, join us live to ask questions, share reflections and be part of the discussion, or watch the recorded webinar.

webinar 1

Caring for someone living with dementia can change relationships – but it shouldn’t mean losing yourself in the process.

This free supportive and practical webinar explores how carers can protect their own wellbeing while maintaining the relationship that matters most. Together we’ll look at realistic coping strategies, ways to prevent burnout, and how to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of dementia care.

Our multidisciplinary panel brings together expertise from ADSS, an Admiral Nurse and Carers First, offering professional insight alongside a deep understanding of the lived experience of caring.

Through a person-first lens, they’ll explore behaviours that can be challenging, consider key questions around carer rights, entitlements, and where to find support with the aim of helping you feel better informed and less alone in your caring journey.

Attendees will:

  • Learn practical strategies to reduce stress and prevent carer burnout

  • Better understand behaviour as communication in dementia

  • Gain clarity around carer rights, entitlements, and available support

  • Feel reassured that your identity and relationships still matter

  • Leave with renewed confidence that you are not alone

A dementia diagnosis does not mean the end of independence.

Many people continue to live well at home - even when living alone - with the right support, understanding and planning in place.

This free webinar explores how families and professionals can balance safety with autonomy, helping people remain independent without compromising dignity or identity. We’ll look at practical ways to reduce risks at home, support confident decision-making, and challenge common assumptions that diagnosis automatically means incapacity.

The session will also touch on the importance of future planning and having a clear care plan, helping families feel more prepared while ensuring the person living with dementia remains at the centre of decisions about their life.

Because seeing a person first means protecting identity – not limiting life.

Attendees will:

  • Understand how to balance independence with safety

  • Learn practical ways to reduce risks at home

  • Feel reassured about living alone with the right support in place

  • Gain confidence in supporting autonomy, dignity, and identity

  • Challenge myths that a dementia diagnosis equals incapacity

  • Understand the value of early planning and having a clear care plan

Changes in eating, drinking and physical health are common in dementia — but many crises can be prevented with early recognition and the right support.

This free, practical webinar explores how carers and families can support good nutrition and hydration, recognise early warning signs of infection or delirium, and know when to seek help. By understanding these changes earlier, it’s often possible to prevent avoidable crises and reduce the need for emergency hospital admissions.

Our multidisciplinary panel brings together professional and lived experience, including our Hospital Team Manager and a person with lived experience of dementia, offering both clinical insight and real-world perspective. Together, they will share practical guidance on working confidently with health professionals, advocating effectively, and supporting the whole person to stay well.

The focus throughout is on protecting dignity, recognising changes early, and supporting people to remain as well and independent as possible.

Attendees will:

  • Learn practical strategies to support eating and drinking

  • Recognise early signs of UTIs, infections and delirium

  • Understand when to seek GP advice or urgent medical support

  • Gain confidence advocating for themselves or a loved one

  • Reduce the risk of avoidable health crises and hospital admissions
