This year's theme is 'My life - my choices: independence, security and achievement'.  The event is jointly organised between the ADASS and the LGA.

The theme reflects the work that local government and partners are doing to create services that are designed for and by the individual service user and where appropriate, their carers.

The three themes of the conference are:

Independence: to support people needing services to design and mange packages of care that allow them to live the lives they want.

Security: this theme will reflect personal autonomy and the need for financial and housing security, how agencies deal with risk and broader community safety work and building a sense of safety for individuals and communities.

Achievement: often the focus is on what people can't do - we want to celebrate achievement.  We also want to reinforce the high ambitions that local government has for Looked After Children and the successes of young people who have overcome often almost overwhelming circumstances and experiences to lead successful and fulfilled lives.

The conference will be held in Bournemouth.

Speakers

We are pleased to announce that Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Paralympic gold medal winning athlete; Phil Beadle, a former recipient of the 'Secondary Teacher of the Year' award in the National Teaching Awards, freelance broadcaster, and the lead role in Channel 4's The Unteachables series; and Lord Victor Adebowale CBE, Chief Executive, Turning Point have all agreed to speak at this important event.

Who Should Attend?

This event is vital to councillors, senior officers, policy makers and service managers with responsibilities for children's and adult care in the statutory, voluntary and private sector.  It is also an important opportunity for their partners in health, education and related fields and MPs with an interest in social care, children's services and education.

The full delegate fee includes entry into all sessions, the exhibition, three lunches, tea and coffee, reception and the conference social event.  The conference has been over subscribed in recent years; delegates are therefore advised to book early.

Conference Structure

Following on the successful format of previous years' conferences, the 2007 conference will open with registration at 9.00am on Wednesday 17 October 2007 and will close with lunch on Friday 19 October 2007.

This year's programme will consist of a mix of keynote/ministerial addresses and other significant plenary sessions by key players in the adult, children and education sectors.  There will also be the opportunity to take part in a variety of participatory breakouts and networking sessions.
